The Promising Voice of Willamette* River

Abd Y. Lafi

 

When the world

becomes like a cage

and the rage fills it,

when there is nothing

but the darkness,

and the sweet

becomes bitter,

keep hope and

wait for better.

 

There was a voice

from far away,

carried by the waves

of Willamette River

singing:

 

the sun will rise again

and the moon

will hug the roads

and the rain

will kiss the rose.

 

*Willamette River is a 187-mile tributary of the Columbia River in Oregon.
